Most people think that burnout is caused by the number of hours that they work or by a really crappy boss. It’s just not true. I have clients that work 30 hours a week who are burned out and I have friends that work 80 hours a week who are not. I had a great boss and I was burned out and I have friends who have crappy bosses who are not.
So what is it then that causes burnout? It’s two things in my opinion.
- Not paying attention to your energy levels and keeping them replenished
- Allowing your mind to run amuck and use up all the energy
