Not asking for help is a surefire way to feel additional stress. There is definitely some drama in this area of which you may not be aware.
Here are the top three reasons we don’t ask for help.
- Fear of judgement. You think that people will think that you are inadequate or below them somehow if you ask for help. A great exercise in this area is to do a “What’s the worst thing that can happen?” thought download. You might also want to ask yourself if you think this way about people when they ask you for help. I bet the answer is no, so why do you think they will think that about you?
- Prognosticating the outcome. You’ve convinced yourself that you know what the person’s answer will be so you don’t even ask. Unless you’re a proclaimed psychic, this just isn’t true. It’s very unfair to the other person to not give them a chance to help you. It might just brighten their day.
- Fear of loss of control. You are the only person who knows how to do something correctly, right (said with heavy sarcasm)? Delegating is the secret sauce for freeing up time to create more value and money in your life. Don’t you want to grow and create more?
What other reasons are preventing you from asking for help when you clearly need it? I would love to hear your feedback!
