You’ve probably heard people say that hope is not a strategy. I’ve actually said this myself. I think what we actually meant to say is that wishing is not a strategy. The definition of hope according to a quick search is “expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen”. This definition implies an action while wishing does not.
I’m currently reading The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. I’m in the chapter about resilience and it turns out that hope is a key factor in your level of resilience. Hope is a mindset and it happens when you have a goal, a plan to achieve the goal, and the belief that you are going to achieve the goal.
A lot of people think that hope is a feeling. Hope is a thought and we are perfectly able to choose it whenever we want. This is the best news ever.
If you wish to feel hopeful, think with a hope mindset (set goal, plan, believe, act, repeat). If you are feeling hopeless, decide to think with a hope mindset on some small goal to prove it to yourself that you can get it done.
Hope is a strategy my friends! Go forth and be full of hope.
